DEFINITIONS
Bursary ~ A financial gift for tuition to a student enrolled in a College degree program who is facing financial constraints.  Applications for bursaries require documented proof of financial hardship (income and expense statements), and are normally awarded only once.

Scholarship ~ Awards normally given to exemplary academic performance while in a College degree or other formal program. These are awarded by the College, whether funded by the College or by other agencies, and are outright gifts for the student to use at their discretion, unless otherwise stipulated.

Active Status ~ Students that are not currently On Hold and whose tuition account is up to date.

AWARD VALUES
The College assumes liability for payment of awards only to the extent that expected gifts from donors or returns from endowed funds are realized.  The college reserves the right to make whatever changes that circumstances may require, including changing the value of the award, cancelling an award or adding awards.  Every effort is made to display the most accurate estimate of the award value.  In addition, to ensure fair and equitable distribution, the College reserves the right to limit the number of awards one student shall receive from the SSC Awards program.

PAYMENT OF AWARDS
Bursaries are administered through the Registrar’s Office and will be applied as a credit to their SSC account.  Scholarships are administered through the Registrar’s Office and a cheque will be forwarded to the student’s address on the application.  Awards will be distributed by June 30 of the current calendar year.

STUDENT LOANS, TAXES AND AWARDS
Merit-based awards are not considered on your Alberta Student Finance loan assessment. However, all award funds must be reported on your federal tax return.  All award recipients must provide the Registrar’s Office with their Social Insurance Number prior to any funds being released.

AWARD DONORS
Bursaries and Scholarships are available to students at St Stephen’s College through the generosity of many individuals, corporations, associations and service organizations. An award may have afforded support to meet your education goals.  Consider the opportunity to give something back; many of our contributors are former students.  We hope that you become part of that tradition.

If you would like to make a contribution to the awards program, please call the Office of the Dean at (780) 439-7311 ext 21. We would be pleased to meet with you or provide you with more information.
